We were born facing the mountains.
Every day, looking up, we learned a vocabulary of peaks, ridges and slopes. We learned the grammar of the wind, the syntax of snow, the punctuation of rock.
The mountains taught us that respect is earned.
That competence is not optional.
That responsibility is a privilege.
We do not challenge the mountains.
We live in them, we respect them and we try to protect them.
Our commitment lies in facing, every day, conditions that are different from those of lowland areas: unique, sometimes extreme.
Here we learned that intellectual honesty is part of who we are. That the most advanced technology is only useful when it serves the land. That making a difference means being there, getting our hands dirty, acting from within, being players rather than critical observers.
