Ski areas

We design ski areas that lead the way: innovative solutions that bring together every engineering discipline, with an eye on the future and respect for the environment.

Winter tourism, driven for decades by skiing alone, is going through a new transformation: no longer led only by slopes and lifts, but by the protection of a genuine natural environment and by sustainability in the broadest sense.

After the first Winter Olympics, in Chamonix in 1924, skiing quickly spread to northern Italy too and, over the following decade, resorts built specifically for winter sports appeared in the Italian Alps. The economic boom of the 1950s led to the first ski areas, which soon took on great economic and social importance, but it also brought rapid exploitation of the Alpine valleys, with infrastructure that often paid little respect to the nature of the places.

For Areaquattro, working as designers in this field means playing an active part in this change and promoting innovative solutions that span every branch of engineering, with an eye on the future and respect for the environment. Designing and building in high mountains calls for specialist technical skills, because of the unique and hostile nature of the environment: this is where the Areaquattro team does its best work, combining decades of experience in Italy and abroad with an understanding of the typical problems of high mountain areas.
